“The Heart of True Leadership: 10 Fundamental Principles Emerging Leaders & Coaches Must Understand Part: 2 ” ~ Jason Ayers

What is Leadership?

This week we concluded our two part series on the 10 fundamentals of Leadership. In this episode I  introduced the remaining 5 principles that every emerging leader and coach needs to understand to become an effective and meaningful person of positive change.

In review of episode 050 ~Part 1 I introduced the first 5 fundamental principles of leadership which included:

1. You must say, “yes” to the fact that You Matter and You Make Difference.

2. Your Credibility Is the Foundation of Leadership

3. Your Values Afford Buy-In

4. You must be Future Focused

5. You Can’t Do it Alone

These 5 principles alone will not get you to where you want to be if you are interested in effective leadership and impacting the lives of others for good. You need the remaining principles.

Plus, you will want to listen in to find out whether I think leadership is trait that you are born with or a skill that can be mastered. What are your thoughts?

Both of these personality types can negatively impact your team’s performance. Everything cannot be urgent and important, even if you say it is. If you say it enough, your employees will learn to ignore you. Equally toxic is being excessively optimistic. Your people need to know when there is true cause for concern so they can respond appropriately.
The ultimate outcome of being a leader is to cultivate your employees as leaders. The key is to serve. By overcoming these toxic personal behaviors, you can lead by example and then get out of the way so your team members can achieve a higher level of success, both personally and for your company.

Are you afraid your employees won’t work as hard if you praise them too much? Mistakes need to be identified, but your employees need to know what they’re doing right, to keep doing it. [...]
